The Regent Canal

Today we had a day trip to London. We started off at Sir Ian McKellen's pub, The Grapes in Limehouse. They even have Gandalf's staff behind the bar.

Then we explored Limehouse basin.

And found the start of the Limehouse Cut.

We carried on round and found the Regent Canal.

The double locks are now single locks with weirs and lots of water coming down them.

Some of the local architecture has survived.

We finally made it to Islington tunnel.

And then after an overground trek we found the canal again and a rather disconcerting floating towpath.

Before a great meeting with cousin Harriet at a pub just outside Euston.

Time to go home

After a fantastic 8 days the end, as always, has come much too soon.

Today we rested

The last full day for the children was spent following their requests.

So it was the park again.

And Gracie demonstrated her football skills.

Before movie night and Dr Who.

A Good Friday

Today was a day of rest. We decided to play frisbee in the park.

And then it was activity time.

Unfortunately bad weather struck, but this squirrel found a novel way of keeping dry.

And then some trampoline time before movie night.

Not moanyThursday

Today was a late start following a late night last night.

Then we voted to go to Droitwich to check on Magpie II and Gracie demonstrated the knots she has learnt at sea cadets.

We had a great picnic in the park by the marina.

And then moved to the park in Droitwich which has a superb spinning ride.

It's also full of things to do. The children are on the swings to the left.

Moseley Old Hall

Then we moved on to Whiteladies Priory.

And finally to Moseley Old Hall where Charles hid successfully from the Roundheads.

The highlight being their tree house.

And mudpie kitchen.

History day

Today we went to Boscobel house where Charles II his in the oak tree.

It was full of dressing up clothes.

We had a great time learning about our history.

A descendent of the famous oak tree is in the same place as the original.
